5 ways to upkeep your home on a budget

Owning a home is more than just the signing of papers and gaining the keys to your house. There is sense of pride and responsibility when you’ve finally owned your very own home, and keeping it beautiful and clean can either be exciting or a chore depending on how you look at it. So, if you plan to be a proud owner of your home, here are 5 things you can do to always keep your house beautiful and welcoming for your family and friends; all with an affordable budget.

Refresh your furniture and fittings

No matter how well you’ve done up your interior, there will be a time when things look a little stale. Instead of spending a bomb to redo your interior design, you can refresh it by changing small things that make a huge difference.

      1. Change your carpet

If you have an old carpet that is dated and maybe stained, then it is time to update your home with a new one. Usually if you go with plain colours or subtle designs for your carpet, you might be able to reuse the carpet again in the event you change your furniture.

       2Invest in paintings and frames

It is amazing how a small addition like a feature wall of black and white photos, or a large piece of painting can do to refresh your home. To make these new art prominent, arrange an area to become a feature wall where the focus is the frame and maybe a small console table where you can place fresh flowers and knick-knacks.

        3Change your curtains

Just like how a new carpet can totally shake up the look of your home, changing your curtains can do the same. Replace your old curtains with something bold to make a statement, or add a sheer curtain for a softer, gentler atmosphere. Just remember to ensure the rest of your furniture is on the subtler side if you were to go for bold curtains.

        4.Rearrange your layout

Bored with your usual arrangement? Just move things around and you can immediately feel the difference. This is the most cost-effective way to refresh your home and it can be done anytime, even before your guests arrive for a visit.

        5.Reupholster old furniture

Instead of throwing out your old furniture, such as your favourite sofa or armchair, if it is still usable, just send it for upholstery. For instance, by reupholstering your old fashioned armchair, you can make your layout look totally different if it is done in a modern tasteful fashion.

Freshen colours

Just like how you change up your furniture with colours, you can do the same with your walls. A fresh coat of paint does wonders, even if you paint it in plain white. There are a myriad of colours to choose from, and if you’re a little more adventurous, you can wallpaper a section of wall to make it into a feature wall.

Always clear your clutter

Remember how perfect the showroom homes look like when you visited them? Your house can be like that too if you always take a little time everyday to clear the clutter in your home. If you always put things back where they belong, and throw away unused things daily, you won’t have to feel overwhelmed when things start to pile up. A little tidiness goes a long way.

Hire help

If you have let clutter pile up and it becomes too hard to spring clean, don’t fret! You can always hire help just for the day to clear everything back to ground zero. Once your home becomes clutter-free, you can start your routine of clearing a little every day to ensure things don’t build up again.
